Why is it so difficult to find a stylist/barber capable of cutting boy's hair with scissors (as opposed to clippers)?
When the Little Man was wee, and in need of first hair cut, a new specialty children's hair salon opened up nearby. Nana was eager to take him, so we did. And he received the most horrible hair cut ever for a shocking $20 plus tax. I complained and they offered to cut his hair again at no charge. It was worse the second time so I complained again. Once more they offered to cut his hair at no charge, but this time we had to wait because his hair was much too short to do anything with. I don't think I even bothered going back for the third time. Instead we took him to the barber shop in the same mall.
At the barber he's received only one really bad cut (and now we simply avoid that barber), a couple of fair ones and many great ones. All for less than $10 a cut.
The Baby Man was in desperate need of a trim but I knew he wouldn't sit at the barber shop for his first hair cut. So I bit the bullet and called the specialty children's hair salon again. I explained that it had been four years since I'd been there because we kept shelling out $20 for horrible hair cuts. I wanted to know if they had any stylists with lots of experience doing men's cuts, who were also good with kids. The receptionist assured me they did and suggested one stylist in particular. So I booked an appointment for each boy.
We arrived for our appointment yesterday, only to be told the stylist our appointments were with had gone home. I was shocked. Apparently another receptionist decided that my boys could be moved to other stylists and so they did just that, without calling to let us know. Of course, had they called I would have insisted they get rebook us with this particular staff.
Another stylist overheard my conversation with the receptionist and offered to do my boys' hair. She assured me she was great with boy's cuts, using scissors. So I let her have at it, with mediocre results at best.
Jake's got a weird wedge across the back of his head and Noah . . . well Noah's hair is uneven all over the place. I've already re-trimmed his hair in a number of places quite a few times.
And for all this we paid a whopping $40 - and that's with an additional 10% for "the confusion" - their words, not mine.
So if anyone knows of a great place for children's hair cuts, let me know! While we can easily take Jake back to the barber, I've a feeling that's not going to cut it (I'm so punny) with Noah. He still needs the added distractions of bubbles, toys, fun "chairs" and the like.
